We all really need to do our end-of-life planning. It's not the fun stuff, but it will save a lot of time and money for your loved ones when the time comes.
Not everyone will need complicated documents like trusts, but anyone with two pennies to rub together needs to have some plans in place. If not, the state will decide for you.
At Law to Go, we can help you with a will package. That includes a simple will, general power of attorney, and a healthcare power of attorney for only $199. Want a free will package? Ready about our "will parties" HERE.
For more complicated estate planning, we partner with Jason Files at Files Law. He is married to our founder, Stephanie Harris.
In a will, you can name your executor, who will ensure your wishes are carried out. If you have minor children, you can say who you want to be their guardian. You can give specific property to specific people. You can also say what you want your services to include or whether you want to be buried or cremated. There are a lot of options; this is where you should make your wishes known.
A general power of attorney is where you will choose your "agent," who will be able to handle your business if you become incapacitated, for a specific period of time, or under other circumstances that you determine. For example, if you are leaving town for an extended period, you can appoint an agent to pay your bills for that period. Or if you fall into a coma, your agent can act on your behalf to take care of life's obligations. Your agent can't make health decisions for you, however. That is done with a healthcare power of attorney.
